I just listened to Mr. James Lartey, PRO for Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on Joy News and I am saddened as a Ghanaian.
Did you know the FDA said they had no knowledge about this contamination and tip-off by the Brazil Authorities?
Did you know this unwholesome gizzard has been in our Cold stores for almost a year now?
The three 40 footer Containers were cleared in March 2019 and the tip-off came in April 2019 a month after it was cleared.
Isn’t it strange we are now hearing of it and the FDA getting to know now as well?
Why did the Veterinary Services refuse to inform the FDA for the necessary action and caution to be given to the General public and if possible withdrawal of this unwholesome product since it was just a month after the clearance?
According to the FDA, they called the Veterinary Service to request a copy of this tip-off from the Brazilian authorities and the response from them was that they needed approval from the Minister of Agriculture before giving it out.
Could this be that the Minister of Agriculture knew about this contamination all this while and stayed mute for Ghanaians to consume these contaminated products?
What interest does the Minister have in this discussion?
It seems there is a total disconnection between our institutions i.e Ghana Standards Authority, Veterinary Services and the Food and Drugs Authority.
Are we safe in this country?
