Parliament House – The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, to remain grounded, diligent, and fully committed to the trust placed in her by her constituents.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, July 22, after administering the oath of office, the Speaker congratulated Aubynn and emphasized the weight of responsibility that comes with public service.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate you and urge you to be punctual, present in Parliament, remain calm, listen more, learn from your colleagues — and above all, read everything, not just the Constitution and the Standing Orders,” he advised.
“You are now the hope of the people in your constituency. They are looking up to you to bring real improvement to their lives. It is a trust — one I pray you do not abuse.”
Cautioning her against distractions, the Speaker added, “Four years passes quickly — it’s like a day. You will return to the people, and this time they will assess you based on your performance. So please, don’t let others mislead you.”
The swearing-in ceremony was not without controversy. Members of the Minority Caucus staged a walkout in protest after Speaker Bagbin denied Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh the opportunity to make a statement before the ceremony commenced.
