The Assembly Member for Mangoase electoral area in Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in Eastern region Afari Agyemang popularly known as Agyengo staged a” one-man “protest during Assembly meeting on Wednesday over the authority’s failure to fix a collapsed footbridge in his electoral area
The wooden footbridge, which serves as an arterial has cut off towns and areas affecting pupils from attending a school at its end.
The footbridge used to cross a river which floods the entire area whenever it rains.
The Assembly member held a placard with the inscription “God and the People Will Not Forgive Us If We Lose a Life Because Of the Bluemich Bridge”
He wants urgent intervention for a permanent solution through the Construction of a concrete bridge or metal footbridge.
“Teaching and learning have halted as school children and residents living in the area are stranded at home even though schools are in session,” the assembly member said.
Speaking to the media, the Assembly member said, despite several petitions sent to the assembly about the condition of the collapsed bridge, but nothing has been done.
“The MP for the area gave an assurance that the bridge was under construction during the election time and as at now not even a single contractor was or is seen. As many people living around find it difficult to patronize the bridge, I took it upon myself to protest in the assembly meeting to plead on behalf of my members for the government intervention. This is an emergency and we need the government intervention” he said.
The newly nominated Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Omar Bodinga, said the Assembly will continue to engage the appropriate agencies directly in charge of the Construction of the bridge.
