Blazing fire gutted a cluster of houses and shops at Akyem Osiem last night, consumed household properties and items for sale, and displaced over 30 occupants.
According to an eyewitness, the fire started around 5:30pm February 1, 2022, from one of the affected houses and spread quickly to the other houses and shops.
Fifteen rooms and four shops were affected.
The Assembly Member for the area, Hon Seth Adu, said, he had a distress call about the incident and quickly called the Bunso Fire Station but was told the fire tender is faulty.
The Bunso Fire Station relayed the information to Anyinam, Kibi, and Koforidua Fire Stations who arrived with tenders to douse the inferno at 8:45pm.
According to the Anyinam station Officer who led the team, Mr. Amponsah’s investigation into the cause of the fire will begin today.
He cautioned residents not to go closer to the affected houses since they have been weakened by the inferno.
He advised Ghanaians to be fire-conscious always and switch off all electrical gadgets before leaving home.
The Municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) director, Mr. Stephen Osei-Owusu, with his personnel at the scene assured, the organization will provide a temporal place for the affected persons after assessment of the impact by close of today.
The Tafo District Police Command led by ASP Fred Kpetigo in charge of Police Personnel were at the scene to protect salvaged properties and direct traffic.
No casualty was recorded in the fire incident.
