Obaapa Development Foundation in collaboration with Marie Stopes Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organizations dedicated to gender mainstreaming and capacity building of women and girls through education, advocacy, programs and projects with economic empowerment has held intergenerational conversation at 2023 Aburi Odwira festival in the Eastern region.
The collaboration was about offering counselling services, including post-abortion care, to reduce the risks of any woman experiencing problems after a miscarriage.
Obaapa Development Foundation, Marie Stopes Ghana and Unity Queens prior to the 2023 Aburi Odwira festival spoke about teenage pregnancy, counselling, injectable, pills, menstruation, and fertility management services in some schools in the area.
The Executive Director of the Obaapa Development Foundation who doubles as a Development Queen Mother for Afigya Kwabre District in the Ashanti region, Nana Hemaa Adjoa Awindor explained that the foundations understand the serious risks some women faced without access to proper pregnancy care and it related issues.
Nana Hemaa Awindor said that they thought the student’s good menstrual health and hygiene practices helped prevent infections, reduce odors, and stay comfortable during their period.
She promised that the foundations are committed to empower females in terms of personal hygiene in the country.
‘‘We teach them to keep their vagina clean, avoid using chemical products, dispose of the sanitary pad properly, and take a shower,’’ she said.
The Project Assistance for Youths at Marie Stopes Ghana, Madam Ataa Kaakyire Atta on her part said the women empowered awareness will help them stay focused with their reproductive health.
Madam Kaakyire Atta promised that the foundation will support women to make meaningful choices in their lives.
She said that supporting women can help in contributing to national development.
