The Eastern Regional communication team member for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Comrade Nyarko, has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to acknowledge its minority status to promote peace.
In an interview with Kwamina Sam Biney on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem, Mr. Nyarko emphasized that this is not the first instance of parliamentary candidates defecting to independents or other parties, it is regrettable that the New Patriotic Party has lost two of its candidates.
” NPP should accept minority status because Parliamentary candidates switching parties is not new just that the New patriotic party wasn’t lucky that they lost two candidates, impacting their majorityNew Patriotic Party should just understand that they are not the majority again for peace to reign “.
“If today honorable Afenyo-Markin has petitioned the supreme court that these four parliamentary candidates per the ruling of the speaker, their constituency will not have a representation in the parliament , that means supreme court has not treated the substantial matter”.He stated.
The speaker of parliament is the head of the legislature, one of the three branches of government, and he has issued his ruling in accordance with the standing of the parliament, thus it is incorrect for the head of judiciary to determine what the head of legislative says.
“A typical example is the president of the republic as the head of executive, the supreme court cannot tell President Akuffo Addo to hold on when he appoints his executive members because he can cannot determine what he says “, he said.
