A major fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, 21st October 2025, affecting several commercial shops along Kantamanto Tazan Lane, near the Ecobank branch in Accra.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received the emergency call at 1:31 a.m., with the first fire engine arriving at the scene by 1:42 a.m. In total, seven fire engines and a Turntable Ladder (TL) were deployed from Circle, Industrial Area, Accra Regional Headquarters, Madina, Legon, and two additional appliances from the GNFS National Headquarters.
Thanks to a coordinated and intensive firefighting effort, the blaze was brought under control and fully confined by 4:49 a.m.
Acting Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, is currently at the site to assess the situation firsthand. She is joined by the Director of Operations, the Greater Accra Regional Fire Commander, and other senior GNFS officers, all of whom are actively involved in managing the ongoing response.
During the operation, one firefighter sustained injuries due to smoke inhalation and asphyxiation. The individual received immediate first aid and was quickly transported to the hospital by personnel from the National Ambulance Service for further medical care.
Firefighting operations are still underway to ensure the area is fully secured.
