The Accra West Rotary Club has sponsored the donation of one hundred (100) science sets to students of the Kitase Basic School at Kitase, a town in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
Manufactured by Dext Technology Limited, a fast-rising group of young innovators in Ghana, the science sets will enable the students, to among other things, have the capacity to develop their own hand washing systems in the fight against Covid19, build smart alarms and robots.
The club also donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other educational materials including copies of “Courtesy for Boys and Girls”, all amounting to GHC20,000.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Accra West Rotary Club, Kwame Baah-Acheamfuor, mentioned that the donation is in line with one of seven focus areas of Rotary International in supporting basic education and literacy.
He further underscored the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), highlighting the relevance of practical education using the science sets.
Receiving the items, the Headmaster of the school, Peter Addo Dankwa promised the items will be put to their best use.
During a training session of teachers and students of the school on how to use the science set, Director of Strategy at Dext, Caleb Fugah, reiterated that the science set focuses on integrating the innovative skills acquired from practical lessons to developing new ideas and solutions useful to the society.
Admonishing other organizations to channel resources into the education of the younger generation, Mr. Fugah thanked the Accra West Rotary Club for making the donation possible.
Highlighting the ease with which the science set could be used, Head of Training and Compliance at Dext, Maxwell Samuel Yamoah, mentioned that all the components of the set have been labeled for easy identification.
Mr. Yamoah explained that for easy assembling, the circuit symbols of all the components have also been printed on the electronic boards.
In addition to the donation, a holistic academic content co-authored by VERONICA BEKOE the inventor of the VERONICA BUCKET was also used as resource material that deals with the causes, effect, spread and prevention of Covid19. The academic content unlike the traditional way of teaching focuses on projects which enables the students to build their own “Advanced/electronic Veronica Buckets” from the Science set as a means to stop the potential spread of the virus in schools.
