The Achiase Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, is calling for the immediate release of the Assembly member for Dwirase Anamase electoral area, Daniel Yeboah, who was assaulted by armed police but arrested and put in custody.
A statement issued by the Constituency Secretary of the opposition NDC, Samuel Obeng on Monday, October 4, 2021, stated that “We the members of the largest opposition party in Ghana precisely Achiase Constituency in the Eastern Region do hereby raise our displeasure in yesterday’s DCE elections.
During the confirmation of the DCE nominee, democracy was thrown to the dogs for tyranny to reign”.
According to the statement “the leadership of the NDC and other concerned citizens got the shock of our lives as the DCE nominee Hon. Richmond Amponsah physically prevented an appointee member from voting because he voted No previously.
After the election ended there was a commotion which led to the brutalities of one Assemblyman who was spotted against the DCE. An alleged vigilante’s members in a security uniform with a beard beat an elected member of the assembly as if he is a criminal. After the beaten he was sent to Oda police headquarters for trying to protect the democracy our forefathers fought for us. We are disappointed how the process was conducted and telling the police to release the Honourable member because he is not a criminal”
