The Managing Director of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB PLC), Edward Ato Sarpong, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the financial institution and the Ministry, and to explore areas of collaboration in support of the Ministry’s mandate to promote decent work and sustainable job creation in all sectors of the economy.
In his remarks, the ADB MD commended the Minister for his wise and pragmatic handling of recent national wage negotiations, particularly the Minimum Wage and Base Pay discussions, describing them as a significant milestone in Ghana’s labour relations history.
He noted that upon assuming office, he (Ato Sarpong) inherited a bank that was underperforming, but through strategic interventions and prudent financial management, ADB has made remarkable progress in restoring stability and confidence in the institution.
According to Edward Ato Sarpong, as a result of the new strategic direction and staff support, the Bank has been able to turn the fortunes of the bank, recording Gh₵230million in just six months, and is on course to achieving its profitability targets for the 2025 financial year.
He added that the bank has introduced a new strategic vision, aimed at transforming ADB into one of the top three banks in Ghana, while maintaining its core mandate of supporting the agricultural sector. The bank has also introduced new corporate tagline; “Beyond Banking…”, with a clear objective of redefining banking, empowering businesses, building futures, driving prosperity and nurturing communities.
With current number of 89 network locations across the country, ADB is deploying technology and implementing several other initiatives to expand its reach, enhance customer experience, and drive rural development through financial inclusion.
On his part, Dr. Pelpuo welcomed the Managing Director and his team, and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with institutions such as ADB to create employment opportunities and empower Ghanaian workers through sustainable economic growth.
