Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president, has urged the current administration to see to it that Kejetia Market Phase II is finished.
When he visited Kumasi’s core business district on March 25, 2025, he made this clear.
“I want to appeal to the [Mahama] government to complete the 80% done Kejetia Market Phase 2 that we started but couldn’t complete,” the former vice president appealed.
He took advantage of the occasion to give GHC 200,000 and about 1,000 bags of cement to help rebuild the burned-out market.
Using the occasion, the former vice president and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer praised the Ghana National Fire Service for putting out the fire.
Numerous stores in Kumasi’s Central Business District perished in a devastating fire on Friday morning.
The Ghana National Fire Service has not yet determined the cause of the fire, which destroyed several properties worth millions of cedis.
Most traders were unable to salvage any of their properties, even if some were able to save some of their goods.
A number of prominent government officials have visited the spot to witness the devastation and have promised to offer assistance to traders impacted by the fire situation.
