Sarah Adwoa Safo, a member of the House of Representatives (MP) for Dome Kwabenya, should be dismissed from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to Nana Obiri Boahen, a former deputy general secretary of the NPP.
Obiri Boahen asserts that while the MP held the party hostage, she did not act with great integrity or professionalism.
He pleaded for the NPP to reject her apologies and attempts to make peace with her supporters and other party members and expel her.
“In my opinion, anywhere you find yourself, there must be discipline. People have served the party but have not benefited, but for you, Adwoa Safo, you are an NPP member, you have become an MP, Deputy Minister, and a Minister of State and as a party, we need your assistance in taking decisions to vote.”
“You kept saying you won’t come, the party pleaded, you insisted you won’t come, then you’re telling me that Adwoa Safo has pleaded for her actions, and so we should do what? Should they accept her so that she returns to parliament again?”
“Impossible! We need to be disciplined. If you’re a politician, and you are not disciplined, then there will be problems for you,” he stated.
Speaking on Okay FM, Mr. Boahen declared that losing the Dome Kwabenya seat to the NPP and ignoring Adwoa Safo were both better options for the party than forgiving and welcoming her back.
He made this statement in response to Adwoa Safo’s public apologies last week to her supporters and party members for her protracted absence from the legislature in 2022, which generated a heated national discussion.
The former minister for gender stated that, despite how it affected the party, her absence was not planned. She admitted that she wasn’t much of herself at the time, and added that the difficulties she was having with her family at the time were what led to her behavior.
