Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has publicly criticized the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Disciplinary Committee for what she describes as poor communication and unprofessional conduct after a scheduled hearing failed to take place without her being informed of any changes.
Ms. Safo, who was summoned over remarks she made during an appearance on JoyNews’ The Pulse, arrived at the party’s Asylum Down headquarters on Monday, April 7, prepared to face the committee. However, she was met with an empty room and only a single party official, instead of the expected full panel.
Speaking to the media shortly after the incident, a visibly disappointed Adwoa Safo questioned the party’s decision to serve her a summons letter on a Sunday only to abandon the meeting the following day without proper notice.
“There was no committee sitting today,” she said. “If there was a change of plans, why wasn’t I informed? I have been summoned, I’ve honored it, but I come here and nothing is happening. This is not how we handle things in a serious political party.”
The former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection also raised concerns about the implications of such miscommunication on her public image, stressing that being summoned before a disciplinary body automatically paints the picture of guilt or wrongdoing.
“As a lawyer, I know what a disciplinary hearing means—it suggests I’ve done something wrong. But if the committee is not ready, why make it public and let me show up for nothing? What kind of message does that send?” she asked.
Supporters of Adwoa Safo were also seen at the venue in solidarity, only to learn that the meeting would not take place.
Despite her frustration, she reaffirmed her loyalty to the party and indicated her readiness to participate in any future engagements with the committee.
“I remain committed to the ideals of the NPP. I’ll make myself available for any properly communicated hearing, but this—this could’ve been done better,” she concluded.
The NPP leadership is yet to issue an official explanation regarding the postponement or the communication lapse.
