President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the Adwumawura Programme, a major government initiative aimed at reducing youth unemployment and boosting entrepreneurship across Ghana.
The launch ceremony was held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, attracting a large crowd including government officials, aspiring entrepreneurs, and local leaders.
Adwumawura is set to support the creation of over 10,000 new businesses every year, focusing on young Ghanaians between the ages of 18 and 35. Participants will benefit from a wide range of support services—such as skills development, mentorship, start-up funding, and access to equipment—to ensure their ventures are sustainable and successful.
In his keynote address, President Mahama stressed the urgency of addressing youth unemployment, calling it one of Ghana’s greatest challenges.
He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to creating decent, lasting jobs and highlighted how Adwumawura aligns with the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s broader economic agenda.
Funded through a GH₵100 million allocation in the 2025 Budget, the initiative is part of a broader strategy that also includes the upcoming National Apprenticeship Programme, which will provide free vocational and technical training to the youth.
