A total of 56 households have been devastated by a strong rainstorm that hit Kwaekese, a farming community in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region.
A total of Four hundred and Fifty-Eight (458) residents have been displaced. This comprise of 90 male adults and 103 female adults and 115 girls and 150 boys.
The incident which happened around 4:30pm Tuesday, March 31, 2020, also affected the Chief Place, parts of the CHPS compound, and a Private School.
Assembly Member for the Bampo Electoral Area, Amuh Yaw explained that the affected individuals are temporarily being sheltered in classrooms of St. Theresa Basic School in the community amid concern of overcrowding and coronavirus scare.
A lady identified as Adzo Gbadegbe who sustained serious injuries on the arm during the incident is receiving treatment at the Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital.
The community with a population of over 4000 has been plunged into darkness as electricity installations and cables were also affected during the disastrous rainstorm.
The District Chief Executive for Afram Plains North Samuel Kena accompanied by officials from the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, has visited the community for impact assessment to facilitate relief support.
Meanwhile the Eastern Regional Director of the NADMO, Kwame Appiah Kodua has assured of doing everything possible to get relief items for the affected persons.
