Notorious armed robbers operating in Afram Plains in the Eastern region have resurfaced many months after the IGP Dr. George Akufo Dampare led a high-powered delegation to the frontline during a wave of rampant highway robberies in the area for decades.
Two suspected armed robbers were killed whilst others were arrested during months of operation by the Anti-Armed robbery squad.
The area has since been peaceful.
Residents hailed the IGP and the police for clamping down on the notorious robbers.
However, some of the robbers who escaped seem to have returned to terrorize commuters.
On Friday, September 9, 2022, at about 7:30 pm, the robbers attacked commuters between Nkwanta-Takoratwene to Gyatakrom stretch of Afram plains road.
The robbers absconded with mobile phones, monies, and other belongings of their victims.
“Today happened to be another unaware and saddened incident on the Afram Plains road where there was a robbery in between Nkwanta/Takoratwene and Agyata-krom just this evening around 7:00pm to 8:00pm where victims were robbed of their mobile phones and monies.
Others were also beaten severely for not having a huge sum of money on them. According to one of the victims, a 207 car, tricycle, and taxi were robbed while some people on a motorbike escape at gunpoint”. A witness said.
