Following several complaints received from residents and farmers on the destructive activities of cattle herdsmen across the various communities within the Ahafo ano south West District, the Management and Environmental Health Unit of the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly held an engagement meeting with cattle ranching owners in the District.
The meeting took place at the District Assembly Hall on Saturday, May 30, 2025.
The essence of the meeting was to find a lasting solution to the destruction caused by the activities of cattle herdsmen and also highlight the District Assembly’s bye-laws that regulate their activities and movement across the District.

The District Environmental Health Officer, the veterinary officer at the Department of Agriculture, the Police Commander, the Chiefs and other Heads of Department of the Assembly educated the participants on what to do as far as their work is concerned.
During the meeting, participants lamented several challenges confronting the smooth operation of their businesses.
Highlighting on some of the challenges, they indicated that the non-availability of a slaughter slab in the District affects their work. Again, some of the animals are stubborn. Hence, herdsmen find it difficult to control them, which ends up in the destruction of farms of indigenes.
They were also of the opinion that the local farmers sometimes exaggerate the degree of destruction to their farms purposely to attract higher compensation. They pleaded that farmers should take it easy with them.
Upon deliberating on the challenges presented by the cattle owners, management resolved as a matter of urgency to implement the bye-law, which will regulate the activities of the cattle owners.
Management also assured the cattle owners that the slaughter slab would be ready at the end of the year 2025.
The cattle owners were also encouraged to pay their levies to the assembly for development.

Present at the meeting were Paul Atsu Agebezudor, the District Coordinating Director, Marccilinus Nameh, District Environmental Health Officer, Francis Akorful, Director in charge of Agriculture and his staff, Heads of Department, some Assembly staff, some Assembly Members, ASP Prosper Adjei, District Police Commander and Nananom.
Certificates of participation were issued to all participants.
