The Bechem Government Hospital in the Tano North District of the Ahafo Region is facing an unprecedented crisis, with patients suffering due to a severe shortage of fuel and essential medicines.
The hospital, which serves as a lifeline for the community and surrounding areas, has been plunged into total darkness, with the male and female wards forced to share facilities at the emergency unit.
Lack of fuel has crippled the hospital’s operations, leaving patients to fray. The situation is further compounded by the unavailability of essential medicines, forcing patients to travel long distances to access the required treatment.
This has not only increased the financial burden on patients but also exposed them to unnecessary health risks.
One patient, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed frustration and desperation, stating, “It’s heartbreaking to see our hospital in this state. We’re being forced to suffer, and it’s like our lives are not valued. We need help, and we need it now.”
