The Akosombo District Police command have launched a search for the family of an unidentified young man whose body was found floating on the Volta Lake near the Adomi Bridge in the early hours of Tuesday, February 19, 2025.
The deceased, believed to be in his 40s, was discovered by an Immigration officer on duty at the bridge at around 10:30 a.m.
A coordinated effort involving the District Police Commander, Environmental Health Officers, a Military Defense Officer, and local divers led to the retrieval of the body at approximately 1:20 p.m.
The body has since been transported to the Police Hospital for further investigation and identification.
Authorities are urging anyone with information that could help identify the deceased or locate his family to come forward. The police have described the young man as well-dressed but have not yet released further details about his identity or the circumstances surrounding his death.
Drowning incidents are unfortunately common along the Asuogyaman stretch of the Volta Lake, primarily due to recreational and fishing activities in the area.
The lake, while a vital resource for the community, poses significant risks, especially for those who venture onto its waters without adequate safety measures.
