The ruling government President Akufo-Addo has uttered his sincere heartfelt condolences to the beloved wife of the late Jerry John Rawlings and the entire family for their great loss of the outstanding figure who can never be replaced.
To him, JJ Rawlings name can never be dissolved in his heart because he has contributed a lot to push Ghana forward and through his efforts led to the establishment of the 4th Republic.
Charismatic, energetic, fearless leader. Such were the attributes ascribed to the man, Jerry John Rawlings, the young air force officer, who announced his presence in Ghana’s politics by the abortive coup of May 15, 1979, and was sentenced to death for his part in the failed effort.
He gave, at his trial, important insight into his character, when he stood up, before the military tribunal, to accept sole responsibility for the attempt, and to request the NCOs, who were being tried with him, to be absolved and freed by the tribunal.
However, such a person’s name will still remain in my heart.
‘Comandante’, as affectionately called, rest and abides in perfect peace in the bosom of the Almighty, until we all meet again on the last day of the Resurrection.
This came to light when Akufo-Addo delivered his tribute to the late Jerry John Rawlings.
Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings passed on November 12, 2020, and will be laid to rest at the Military Cemetery in Accra.
He left behind a widow Nana Konadu, and four children, Zanetor, Yaa Asantewa, Amina, and Kimathi.
