The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua, Most Reverend Joseph Afrifa Agyakum has lauded President Nana Akufo-Addo led administration for their commitment to the fight against the Pandemic COVID-19 in the Country.
According to him, the effort to use state money meant for other projects to purchase COVID-19 Vaccines for Ghanaians and provision of Personal Protective Equipments for Health workers as well as School Children and others in the street is laudable and called on the Government to continue the commitment until the fight is over.
Speaking with Journalist in Asamankese after the ordination of four Deacons into the Diocese of Koforidua, Bishop Afrifa Agyekum also commended President Nana Akufo-Addo, Ministers and Health Service Leaders for their frequent update on the deadly disease and the introduction of restrictions were also in the right direction.
He noted that COVID-19 has killed many Ghanaians and affected Businesses and Individual including his Diocese and members of the church, adding, most Church members lost their jobs while others were recording low sales due to the Pandemic and that has affected donations to the church as well as planned activities and projects.
Bishop Afrifa Agyekum said despite the Challenges the COVID-19 brought, it has improved Cleanliness in human life and resulted positively as no case of Cholera was recorded in the Country in 2020 and most Ghanaians and others in the World are vigilant now in Public gatherings.
To fight the Pandemic in Ghana, the Bishop noted that Citizens must support the Government and pay attention to Health expects advice and continue to observe COVID-19 safety protocols.
A total of 742,349 COVID-19 Vaccines have been Administered between 9th March and 12th April 2021 in Ghana and the number of deaths recorded is 766 as of 12th April 2021.
Active cases stand at 1,379 with 8 patients in critical and 26 severe conditions and the number of confirmed cases stands at 91,545 with 89,400 recoveries while the test conducted so far is 1,039,284.
