The Free senior high school policy has been described as the best educational policy any government could have implemented in the history of Ghana, National Youth Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has boasted.
According to Henry Nana Boakye, the Akufo-Addo led government took the bold decision to implement the policy despite earlier unfounded criticisms by then President, John Dramani Mahama, and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Nana B, as affectionately called disclosed this in an interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese on Okay FM when responding to comments on the policy by the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
Mr. Mahama accused the government of implementing the policy without the necessary fundamentals hence the introduction of the double-track policy amidst other challenges.
But the National Organiser of the NPP was of the view that the timely intervention of the free SHS policy has allowed many children to further their education no matter one’s financial background as government bored all costs at the various government institutions.
He added that President Mahama and the next NDC government would cancel the policy should Ghanaians give them the opportunity back into power.
However, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe of the NDC legal team has rubbished Sammy Awuku’s claim insisting government could have started the policy progressively as the NDC did because the constitution has even made provision on it.
He stressed the next Mahama-NDC government would rather improve the policy by providing the necessary infrastructure, staff, find sources of funding, and other logistics to ensure the sustainability of the policy.
