The Eastern Regional Women’s Organizer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Shirley Naana Osei Ampem says mismanagement of the economy by Akufo Addo-led government is collapsing businesses with women the most affected.
She said the current economic situation has led to many shops being closed down as the exchange rate worsens.
She said the deteriorating strength of the cedi which is about Ghc12 to a dollar is eroding capital of many businesses.
Shirley Naana Osei Ampem said it is not surprising traders in Kumasi stronghold of the NPP have closed down their shops adding that more shops in Greater Accra will also be closed in the coming days.
Speaking to journalists after successfully filing her nomination, Shirley Naana Ampem assured that ,the only government to rescue the country from this hardship is former president John Dramani Mahama.
As an aspiring Eastern region Women Organizer in the ticket of the NDC, she said her biggest target is to mobilize all women in the region and make sure she pave way for other women to occupy key leadership positions within the party and beyond.
Concerning the 2020 election defeat , she said it was as a result of their own complecency hence she promise to bring on board women who are active and will be vigilant on the election day to make sure the NDC wins power in 2034.
A total of forty-nine(49) aspirants filed to contest the Eastern regional executive positions by close of nomination Saturday October 15,2022 at 5:00pm, according to Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Sumaila Mahama.
The incumbent Regional Chairman John Owusu Amankrah also known as Jowark is being contested by Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, a Lecturer, Bismark Tawiah Boateng, both former Regional Secretary and Regional chairman respectively. Also in the contest are a businessman William Atamudzi an incumbent Regional Vice Chairman and Basil Ahiable ,a former aspirant.
The Regional Secretary position is being contested by George Mensah Akpalu, a Lecturer, Kudjo Adukpo the incumbent, Baba Jamal former Regional election director of the party and Nene Gerald.
Interestingly, the incumbent Deputy Regional Youth organizer Richard Etornam Nyarko is contesting the incumbent Regional Youth Organizer, Okai Minta for the position.
Former Regional Women’s Organizer Evelyn Koran defeated by the incumbent Shirley Naana Ampem in 2018 has staged a come back.
The incumbent Regional Organizer , Hackman Kabore is being contested by Joshua Atta Mensah ,a former YEA regional boss.
The aspirants are expected to be vetted this week before the constituency elections are held by end of the week after which the Regional elections will be conducted.
