The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of turning the country into military rule.
According to him, there have been issues of human rights abuses which are targeted at some of their people in the strongholds of the NDC.
Speaking on the misunderstanding between Krobolands and the Electricity Company of Ghana, Mr Ofosu Ampofo said President Akufo-Addo has turned the country to military rule and there is a need for the NDC to arise and defend innocent Ghanaians who have been subjected to inhumane activities by security agencies.
‘‘We were there three days ago and the narration that is coming from the victims is most unfortunate, to say the least; pregnant women and old ladies were beaten and a young man’s leg was broken and several atrocities have been committed against our people. There is a need for NDC to form teams to move to those areas to support people because the human right abuse has become too much,’’ said Mr Ofosu Ampofo.
“We hold the view that the military-backed forced installation of prepaid meters in the area without proper community engagement and sensitisation was completely unnecessary,” he said.
The Chairman of the NDC said that the members have come under a lot of injustices in the last few years.
Interacting with NDC legal practitioners at the 2nd Annual Lawyers conference held at Ada in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Ofosu Ampofo extolled all NDC legal team for delivering their best and fighting for the party in all circumstances.
“Grateful to Tsatsu Tsikata and all the legal team for assisting the party in difficult times” he added.
Mr Ofosu Ampofo called on experienced lawyers to develop a system to support the young lawyers in their career development and mentorship enabling them to get a law firm to work with.
