President Nana Akufo-Addo has stated that his administration is committed to ensuring “clean mining” in Ghana in a responsible and ethical manner in accordance with worldwide best practices.
President Akufo-Addo has challenged the next generation of Ghanaians to guarantee that the country’s water bodies and natural resources are protected through responsible mining.
President Akufo-Addo said that small-scale mining accounts for over 40% of Ghana’s gold exports when he spoke during the commissioning of 100 mercury-free mineral processing technologies (Gold Kacha) for small-scale mining in Independence Square on June 6, 2022.
Small-scale mining, he continued, provides job possibilities as well as a source of living and income for many Ghanaians.
President Akufo-Addo assured small-scale mining stakeholders that his government aimed to eliminate negative practices associated with the industry and ensure that small-scale mining supports the government’s drive to maximize mining earnings in the pursuit of development, progress, and prosperity for all Ghanaians.
