President Nana Akufo-Addo has surprised residents of Upper West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region with a Ministerial appointment for their 37-year-old geo-scientist, Mr. Frederick Obeng Adom, who made history for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on December 7, 2020, when he snatched the Parliamentary seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Since the return to democratic rule in 1993, the seat has been the preserve of the NDC and nominated as Deputy Transport Minister-designate.
Mr. Adom polled 21,863 votes to snatch the seat from the NDC candidate, Mr. Darko Derek Ohene Assifo Bekoe, who garnered 20,196 votes with rejected ballots standing in third place with 637.
He is currently serving in House Committee and Mines and Energy Committee in Parliament.
Mr. Rahman Ganiyu, Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Upper West Akim Constituency in a statement just after the Government official release on the Deputy Ministers said “It is with utmost joy and contentment that we the constituents of Upper West Akim express our profound gratitude to His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo for appointing Hon. Frederick Adom Obeng, MP for Upper west Akim, as the deputy minister-designate for Transport.”
The statement said, “Indeed this appointment is first of its kind in the history of the New Patriotic Party in Upper West Akim as this also is the first time the party has been able to win the Parliamentary seat since 1992.”
“We are confident Hon. Adom will work assiduously to retain the seat and ultimately make it a traditional one for the New Patriotic Party. We believe this appointment is the beginning of a phenomenal and monumental development ever to be witnessed in our Constituency, the Transport Sector, and Ghana at large.”
