The Western Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) has debunked allegation that government was responsible for the putting up of a statue in honour of President Akufo-Addo in the Western region.
The party’s Regional communications director, Issah Fuseini, said the statue was rather funded by the Western Regional House of Chiefs to thank President Akufo-Addo for the numerous developmental projects undertaken in the region.
President Akufo-Addo unveiled a statue of himself at the entrance of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi as part of his one-day “thank you” tour of the Western Region on Wednesday, November 6.
Addressing residents, President Akufo-Addo highlighted his administration’s accomplishments, noting that he has fulfilled 80 percent of his promises to Ghanaians.
Meanwhile, the unveiling of the statue has generated uproar among Ghanaians as to whether the statue has been priotised over the numerous challenges people in the region are going through.
But Issah Fuseini insisted on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem in an interview with Kwamina Sam Biney on Monday November, 11.
He recounted the many achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led government in the region and therefore sees nothing wrong with the traditional leadership initiative to honour him as such.
However, the Western Regional communications officer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC Richard Kirk Mensah (Don Kerk) rebutting to the NPP communicator described it as a fallacy for the regional House of Chiefs to claim ownership of the statue.
He emphasized that the government has failed the people in the region, alleging the statue was put up by the party to portray to Ghanaians as if the region has benefited from the failed leadership of President Akufo-Addo.
