Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has stated that it would be a “surprise” if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not win the Akwatia by-election.
According to him, the overwhelming presence and influence of state players in the constituency nearly guarantees an NDC victory.
Speaking on JoyNews, Mr. Mornah claimed that chief executives of several state agencies and high-ranking representatives of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) had relocated to Akwatia prior to the elections, both in their official roles and to rally support for the NDC.
“I think it will be a surprise that the NDC doesn’t win,” Mr. Mornah remarked. “This is because everybody is there, and once everybody is there, everybody is spending.”
He acknowledged that there had been denials of vote buying, but he maintained that the facts on the ground indicated otherwise.
“I have heard that there is no vote buying and what have you, but the AMA boss and all his people are there. They are supporting and tipping people to go out there and vote. That may not be the official party’s stance, but they are spending,” he claimed.
