The National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to law and order ahead of the Akwatia by-election.
He emphasized that as a law-abiding party, the NDC will not condone or participate in actions that could cause instability in the nation.
He claims that all NDC supporters taking part in the campaign and the next election have received warnings to refrain from taking any actions that can incite electoral violence.
Opare Addo asked party members to maintain their composure as they support Bernard Bediako Baidoo, the NDC parliamentary candidate, in a statement to reporters following a leadership meeting with the clergy at the Akwatia GCD Walker Club on Monday, August 25.
Additionally, he urged the Ghana Police Service to maintain their vigilance and take harsh action against any organization or anyone attempting to incite unrest on election day.
“NDC is a law-abiding party; we will not indulge in any acts that will destabilise this country. We’re the midwives of Ghana’s democracy; we hold it very dear. Whatever we have to do to safeguard democracy, we will do.
“We have told our supporters to refrain from anything that will lead to violence. We have told our brothers on the other side [New Patriotic Party] that we will not countenance any violence from anybody,” he said.
