A 29-year-old Mason has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 12-year-old girl by the Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams.
Kwasi Christian, also known as Dela was charged for the defilement of a child under 16 years, contrary to section 101 of the criminal offenses Act 1960(Act 29).
According to the prosecution statement presented by Chief Inspector Susan Ayaric, the complainant, Bernice Mensah is unemployed living at Akwatia camp whilst the accused is a mason and stepfather to the victim who is 12 years old.
The prosecutor said the victim and her biological mother live in the same house as the accused person and on 05/10/2021; the victim was asleep in the hall of their room when the accused secretly went and sleep beside the victim and removed her dress, and had sexual intercourse with her.
The Prosecution officer said the victim started screaming due to pain but no one came to her rescue and she later went to her grandmother and narrated the incident to her.
On 07/10/2021, the case was reported to the police, and the accused person was arrested after which a medical form was issued to the victim to be taken to hospital for medical examination and Report.
The medical form was later returned, duly endorsed by a medical officer at St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia, and the accused was further investigated and charged with the offense and arraigned before court for prosecution.
