Five more persons have been retrieved dead bringing the death toll in the Church building collapse disaster at Akyem Batabi in Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region to six(6).
According to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), a total of 13 victims were retrieved as of last night out of which 6 were dead, one (1) in critical condition while 6 were treated and discharged.
Over 40 worshipers including women and children are still trapped under the four-storey uncompleted Church building whose construction started about ten years ago.
The Church building of the Church of Prosperity collapsed Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at about 2:30 pm.
According to a survivor, about 60 worshippers were in the building resting after fasting and prayers session.
A joint rescue team made up of officials of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Ghana National Fire Service, Police and Ambulance Service with a reinforcement rescue team from the Eastern Regional Capital, Koforidua is currently at the scene with excavators continuing with the rescue Operation.
The Eastern Regional Minister Eric Kwakye Darfuor and his team reportedly storm the scene yesterday a few hours after the incident.
