A seven-year-old boy has drowned in a river Taasu at Akyem Kwabeng in the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred on March 27, 2020, when the deceased went to the riverside with his younger siblings to wash their dirty clothes.
The boy was retrieved dead when elders of the community belatedly heard and rushed to the scene.
Police and Officials of National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, later arrived at the scene to take the body to Kibi Government Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
This is the second reported drowning incident in the Eastern region involving a school child since the closure of schools by the President of Ghana on March 16, 2020, as a measure to contain the spread of Covid-19 disease.
The first incident which involved class six(6) pupil Ayuba Zebelo occurred last week. He drowned in the Volta River at Mamakope a fishing community near Atimpoku in the Eastern Region.
