Twenty-Nine (29) year old Agnes Nana Asare who stays in Akyem Tafo has reportedly been abandoned by her husband at the Eastern Regional Hospital after suffering complications from Cesarean section (CS).
Agnes Asare was delivered two months ago at Hawa Memorial hospital in Akyem Osiem in the Eastern region through surgery but suffered complications of surgical site infection, bloated belly, and constipation.
She was referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for further treatment.
Sadly, Agnes Asare’s husband is nowhere to be found two months on admission at the hospital.
“When I was discharged after the surgery at Hawa Hospital, I vomited whenever I ate. My Tommy was bloating but I couldn’t fart. I had constipation too so I was sent back to Hawa Hospital where I spent three days. We did scans and laboratory tests but they couldn’t identify the cause. The incision became infected and there was fluid coming out from it. It was later that a doctor came and examined that there was fluid in my belly. So they referred me to this hospital (ERHK) one night. They performed another surgery to correct it but have become infected again”
“I have been here for the past two months. I don’t know the whereabouts of my husband. They went to his house at Osiem but we were told he has traveled to search for a job” Agnes sadly narrated.
Agnes was discharged yesterday but was struggling to pay her medical bills of about GHc2,000.
The depressed mother of Agnes met leaving the hospital said she was going for a loan from a Susu company to settle the medical bills hoping manna will fall from heaven to subsequently feed the baby and the nursing mother.
Ms. Joana York Amoah who is the deputy in charge at the Lying -Inward at the – Eastern Regional hospital said “the postnatal care unit is challenged with a lot of problems regarding women who after delivering are not able to afford their bills and remain in their care for a longer period, therefore individuals and NGOs should come to their aid”.
