Mr. Alan Kyerematen, a presidential candidate and Movement for Change leader, has promised to govern Ghana with a streamlined 40 ministers if won in the 2024 general election.
The former Trade Minister underlined his dedication to cost-cutting initiatives, saying he plans to scale back on appointments to concentrate on the growth of other economic sectors.
Mr. Kyerematen first said that a union government would utilize all human resources for the advancement of the country, but he also said that there would be no more than 40 ministers in the union government.
Citing Switzerland as an example of optimal practice with fewer ministers, he argued against the need for thirty to forty ministries.
Mr. Kyerematen emphasized that only 19 cabinet ministers were necessary by Ghana’s Constitution.
He questioned why the United States, with its continental position, has 435 members of the House of Representatives, whereas Ghana, a very tiny country, only has 275.
The Movement for Change, led by Mr Kyerematen, seeks to eradicate partisan governance and provide opportunities for every Ghanaian to contribute to national progress.
“The Movement emphasizes the need for talent harnessing for progress,” Mr Kyerematen noted.
