President for C4C alternative health care, Dr Michael Kyeremateng has said overconsumption of alcohol “akpeteshi” leads to harmful effect on the liver and other parts of the body.
According to him, the liver performs many essential functions related to digestion, metabolism, immunity, and the storage of nutrients within the body hence liver should be well protected.
Speaking to Abena Pokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM’s “Efa wo ho” morning show Dr Kyeremateng indicates that when alcohol reaches the liver, it produces a toxic enzyme known as acetaldehyde and as a high content, the enzyme can damage the liver cells and can lead to health problems, such as the fatty liver.
He stated that the liver is the largest internal organ that protects the immune system and when consuming excessive alcohol, it reduces the capacity of the liver to function well
Dr Kyeremateng, therefore, advise the public to avoid the consumption of alcohol “Akpeteshi” in order to maintain good health.
