The goalkeeper and assistant coach of an Algerian top-flight football club, MC El Bayadh, died in a team bus crash while traveling to a weekend fixture.
Ten other players were injured in the accident.
The crash occurred in Tiaret, approximately 150 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast, with the cause unspecified.
In response, the Algerian Football Federation has canceled all matches nationwide for the weekend and postponed the draw for the next round of the country’s main cup competition, originally set for December 26.
