Eastern Region, Ghana – Ali Abubakar Akyena has been appointed the Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), an agency under the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.
GIFEC is mandated to promote universal access to basic telephony, internet, and electronic communications services, particularly in underserved and unserved communities across the country.
Ali Akyena is widely recognized for his dedication to duty and passion for community work. A hands-on leader, he is known for his strong presence in rural and remote areas, working directly with residents to solve pressing challenges.
Before his new appointment, Mr. Akyena worked with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for several years.
He also has extensive political experience within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), having served in roles such as Branch Youth Organizer, Branch Secretary, Constituency Deputy Secretary, and Constituency Secretary, before rising to the position of Deputy Regional Elections Director.
In the 2024 general elections, he served as a Member of the Eastern Regional Elections Committee, playing a key role in the party’s electoral activities.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen GIFEC’s operations in the Eastern Region, leveraging his grassroots experience and development-oriented leadership style.
