The Majority Leader Hon Osei Kyei Mensah believes It’s could be better all Political parties amend their constitution to allow card bearing members in various Constituencies to determine their Parliamentary Candidates to avoid vote-buying.
It was observed that the level of vote-buying and opulence that were on display at the governing New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries on Saturday, 20 June 2020 were “alarming” and “unprecedented”.
According to the Member of Parliament for Suame constituency in the Ashanti Region, he believes to avoid vote buying during parliamentary primaries; all political parties should change their constitution to allow card bearing members in the various constituencies to choose their parliamentary candidates.
But before the parliamentary Primaries, the National Organiser for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) sent a strong warning to candidates planning to engage in vote-buying but failed to adhere to.
According to Sammy Awuku, any candidate who attempts to unduly influence delegates through financial gains will be met with disciplinary action, but we are yet to see if any candidate would be dealt with as stated.
Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu made the call during an interview with Abena Pokua Ahwenie on Dadi FM morning show dubbed “Efa Wo Ho”.
