Hopeson Adorye, the United Party’s Director of Field Operations, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to replace the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie Central immediately following disclosures from a JoyNews Hotline exposé on illicit mining.
Speaking on the investigative article “A Tax for Galamsey: The Extortion Racket Fuelling Illegal Mining” on Monday, February 10 on the JoyNews AM Show, Mr. Adorye emphasized that prompt action was required to discourage others.
“Whether it is internally generated funds or whatever, I think the President must sack him with immediate effect. He must be removed just to deter others,” he stated.
Mr. Adorye asserts that the President has already emphasized the necessity of taking swift action against those engaged in illicit mining, and the investigation’s evidence does not permit any postponement.
He also demanded that consequences go beyond the DCE, claiming that a number of state officials implicated in the probe had disregarded their duties and ought to be dismissed as well.
“Not the DCE alone. The NIB boss there should be fired. The National Security boss there should be fired. The NADMO boss there, who has been issuing bills— ‘go and pay this, go and pay that’—he should be fired,” he said.
Additionally, Mr. Adorye called for the police commander in the region to be transferred immediately, emphasizing that keeping such officers in place erodes public trust in the effort to combat illegal mining.
“All these people, including the police commander there, should be transferred immediately. We should not entertain some of these things. The President must be seen to be working,” he added.
