Amnesty International has called for the immediate release of underage protesters detained in Nigeria, sparking widespread condemnation from a coalition of human rights organizations.
The minors, allegedly facing charges of treasonable felony, were arrested during the #EndBadGovernance protest held on August 1st.
The National Human Rights Commission, Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Elders Forum, and Coalition of Civil Societies have also denounced the ongoing trial of the 112 detainees, highlighting concerns over their treatment.
In response, the Minister of Justice has instructed the Nigerian police to submit the case file for review.
Reports indicate that many of the detained protesters appeared in court visibly malnourished.
