Swansea City forward Andre Ayew is in line to lead Ghana in his first competitive match against Sudan as captain under CK Akonnor.
Akonnor, who was appointed to replace Kwasi Appiah in January, was set to take charge of his first competitive game in March against Sudan until the Coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation and eventual postponement of the fixture.
With the Confederation of African Football (CAF) giving the green light for the continuation of the qualifying matches, Andre Ayew will be playing as Akonnor’s first captain in a competitive game.
He will be hoping to prove a trusted lieutenant in Akonnor’s setup as he builds a solid unit capable of conquering Africa next year at the AFCON finals in Cameroon.
The 2009 U20 FIFA World Cup winner has capped 86 times for the Black Stars and is in line to make his 87th appearance for the national team.
Ghana takes on Sudan at 4pm at the Cape Coast Stadium.
