There was chaos at the Suhum Government Hospital in the Eastern Region on Wednesday evening, as family members and friends of a deceased accident victim stormed the facility in a violent manner to attack nurses on duty.
The incident followed the death of a 29-year-old miner from Accra who was heading to Anyinam.
The miner had an accident at Suhum Top Oil stretch of the Accra to Kumasi Highway after colliding with a trailer.
He reportedly died at the Emergency ward while on admission at the Suhum government hospital.
The angry family and friends of the deceased alleged negligence by the nurses for delaying referral to Eastern Regional Hospital.
They physically attacked the nurses on duty, and damaged the sliding doors and windows of the Emergency ward.
It took intervention of local police personnel to rescue the nurses and restore order.
The Ambulance vehicle for Suhum have grounded for months due to inability to secure gh9000 to purchase new injector to replace the faulty one.
It is however not clear if that caused the delay in referral of the victim.
