Angry residents of the Upper Manya Krobo District in the Eastern Region are on the heels of an officer at the Birth and Death Registry for failing to print birth certificates for them having taken monies from hundreds of residents.
According to the angry residents, many of the victims paid monies to the suspect Isaac Ayertey over a year ago to get the birth certificates either urgently or within normal time, however, the officer has failed to deliver.
The officer hardly reports to the district office for fear of being attacked by his victims.
The Regional Office of Birth and Death Registry in Koforidua has been informed about the development and is making effort to resolve the matter by gradually printing the birth certificates to the aggrieved persons who still need them while subjecting the officer to internal disciplinary procedures.
The Births and Deaths registry is an institution under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development established to provide accurate, reliable and timely information on all births and deaths occurring within Ghana for the Socio-economic development of the country through their registration and certification.
