Another Ghanaian Journalist has been arrested by National Security Operatives.
The Host of ‘The Citizen Show’ on Accra FM, Kwabena Bobbie Ansah, was arrested in Rambo style last night after hosting the live radio show.
His arrest is being linked to his recent incessant attacks on the President and the judiciary. One of which he reportedly posted on his Facebook timeline describing President Akufo Addo as headless.
Other sources say, he reportedly posted on Facebook, in which he claimed that the “current judiciary is corrupt and made up of crooks and criminals led by a corrupt Chief Justice who’s struggling to purge himself of a $5 million thievery allegation”.
The producer of the show, Kwame Kwakye, who broke the news live on the radio said, “Kwabena Bobbie Ansah, the Host of ‘The Citizen Show’ and also a staff of CMG, specifically Accra FM, has just been arrested by unknown policemen. We do not know where they’re stationed; neither do we know where they’re taking Bobbie Ansah. We don’t know what his crime is and which police station he’s been sent to. He was picked up right after ‘The Citizen Show’. He was arrested with a National Security car that had police officers in it without identity.”
Bobbie Ansah was taken to the Nima Police Station then subsequently to Striking Force Unit.
He becomes the third journalist to have been arrested in recent times.
A few days ago, Power FM’s Oheneba Boamah Bennie, was jailed for 14 days and fined 3,000 cedis for contempt of court, in a case in which he allegedly made false claims against President Akufo-Addo and the justices of the Supreme Court about the 2020 election petition.
Before that, Captain Smart of Onua TV was also arrested for some utterances he had made on TV, and he’s currently facing trial for alleged extortion which he has denied.
The Executive Director of ASEPA, a social group that advocates for good governance, Mensah Thompson, was on Thursday, February 10, 2022, granted bail for 50,000 cedis after he was arrested and charged for allegedly publishing false news against the President and the Ghana Armed Forces, although he had apologized for the claims.
Connect FM’s Journalist was also attacked recently by Police.
Happenings in the country have raised eyebrows about an attempt to mute critical voices in the media space.
