Ark Development Organization in collaboration with Ghana Health Service have held second Diabetes Case Conference at Nsawam in Eastern region.
Held at the conference hall of the Municipal Assembly, the event aimed to empower attendees with valuable insights into effectively managing their condition.
Distinguished speakers that graced the occasion, included Dr. Abigail Sackey, the Eastern Regional None Communicable Disease Coordinator, also with the Eastern Regional Hospital.
Additionally, Mr. Alexander Kpoha, a renowned Registered Nutritionist from Nsawam Government Hospital, provided expertise on diabetes, covering essential topics such as causes, symptoms, complications, and best management practices.
Attendees benefited from comprehensive knowledge about diabetes through these enlightening educational sessions.
The interactive discussions following the educational segments were marked by active participation from diabetes clients, who posed pertinent questions and shared personal testimonies.
A total of 40 participants, comprising 29 females and 11 males, attended the conference, showcasing enthusiastic engagement and contributing significantly to its success.
Stakeholders emphasized the urgent need for affordable access and improved care for diabetes patients.
The absent of endocrinologist in Eastern Region was a worrying concern.
The Diabetes Support Project aims to address the pressing needs of individuals living with diabetes particularly those with Type 1 diabetes in Nsawam Adoagyiri, Suhum, AyensuanoAyensuano and West Akyem.
Speaking at the Diabetes Case Conference, the Executive Director of Ark Development Organization, Emmanuel Kwarfo Mintah explained the project’s significance and emphasized the importance of community involvement.
He said since its commencement in March 2023, the project has made significant strides in raising awareness and delivering essential services to the community.
Outreach campaigns, screening activities, and educational initiatives have been instrumental in identifying and supporting individuals affected by diabetes.
“To date, over 4,000 individuals have been screened, with suspected cases promptly referred to hospitals for further diagnosis and treatment”.
Emmanuel Kwarfo Mintah said,recognizing the multifaceted challenges posed by diabetes, Ark Development Organization has adopted a holistic approach to support patients.
Treatment initiatives aim to ensure access to quality care, medications, and therapies, empowering individuals to effectively manage their condition.
Moreover, livelihood provision component of the project seek to alleviate financial burdens through skills training and job placement opportunities.
Central to the project’s success is the concept of continuous visitation, wherein Ark Development Organization maintains a consistent presence within the community.
Through information dissemination, counseling sessions, and ongoing support, the organization endeavors to foster a sense of companionship and solidarity among diabetes patients.
In his closing remarks, the Executive Director Emmanuel Kwarfo Mintah reiterated the organization’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of diabetes patients.
He emphasized the importance of community collaboration and urged individuals to actively engage with Ark Development Organization to tailor support services to their unique needs.
