There is tension at Begoro in the Fanteakwa North District in Eastern region as armed Police storm Palace in attempt to arrest one Nana Ansah Yeboah, a man rejected by Kingmakers but trying to enstool himself as Begorohene.
The armed police personnel bused to Begoro township on Friday have taken position at the palace protecting lives and properties.
Efforts to get a new Chief to be enstooled as Begorohene three years after the death of Daasebre Awuah Kotoko II who was also Benkumhene of Akyem Abuakwa have triggered protracted dispute among the four royal houses in Asona Royal Family that ascend the Begoro stool .
Few days ago,Kingmakers in Begoro traditional area under Akyem Abuakwa state in Eastern Region jumped to the defense of Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin and rendered unqualified apology to him over false allegations made against him by some few aggrieved members of Asona Royal family on Begoro Chieftaincy matters.
Opposing faction of Asona Royal Family led by their spokesperson Daniel Darko held a press conference on February 27,2023 to unwittingly accused Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin for attempting to circumvent customs by imposing one Amfo Amoama who is not qualified to ascend the stool.
They also alleged that Okyenhene has disregarded an appeal case pending at the national house of chiefs restraining the installation of new Begorohene and had through state secretary of Akyem Abuakwa, fixed date for installation of Amfo Amoama therefore called on President Akufo Addo and IGP Dr.GeorgeAkufo Dampare to intervene to stop the process to avoid bloody violence.
The Kingmakers in Begoro led by Ankobeahene, Barfuor Owiredu Agyarko Minta III debunked claims made against Okyenhene by opposing faction that he has side step tradition and customs ,and attempting to enstool new Begorohene.
The Ankobeahene Barfour Owiredu Agyarko III said the kingmakers have elected Amfo Amoama with majority decision to ascend the stool and his legibility has been upheld by Judicial committees of Akyem Abuakwa traditional council and Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.
Addressing the media, the Head of Antwi Kwasi family of Begoro , Abusuapanyin Obeng Boateng condemned attempt by the opposing faction to smear Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin stating that, ruling by the judicial committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs must be respected.
Regent Queenmother Nana Adwoa Kessewa said it is disingenuous for anyone to claim that Amfo Amoama is a descendant of slave in Begoro therefore not qualified to ascend the stool.
