The Commanding Officer of Police Service Workshop at Ghana Police Service COP Ebenezer Francis Doku says the battle against armed robbery is a collective responsibility.
According to him, armed robbers are not from the skies but from within Communities therefore imperative for the general public to provide information to police about questionable characters.
“The battle against robbery is a collective one. They are not people from the skies, they are people who live with us in the communities so once we notice that some people have questionable characters let us report them to security agencies and if we can get early and reliable Intelligence we will be able to combat the menace”
COP Doku said the Police administration is worried about the rampant armed robbery cases in the Eastern region therefore efforts are underway to neutralize the situation by arresting the Suspects.
He said the deployment of the Anti-Armed Robbery Taskforce by the Acting Inspector General of Police George Akufo Dampare is one of the strategies.
COP Doku made this known on Saturday during the 13th Holy Convocation of Honorary Doctorate Award by His Presence University of Theology (HiPUT) held in Somanya.
He however pleaded with Politicians and Traditional rulers to desist from interfering with the work of Police when Suspects are arrested.
COP Francis Doku told Journalists during an interview that, the panacea to the robbery menace is quality Education and job creation.
“Just as my former IGP said and he was taken on. It is a worldwide phenomenon. What basically, account for insecurity in our communities is about lack of jobs and also when people don’t take to Education they find themselves in streets and naturally they must find themselves something to feed on and so the basic thing is to get them all back to school. And once they are in school these robberies other criminal activities will stop.
The panacea to all these problems is education and we must take education seriously”
