VICTORIA HARDCASTLE’S DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOR UNBECOMING OF A LEADER: HER APPOINTMENT MUST BE REVOKED IMMEDIATELY
The Eastern Regional Communications Directorate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has noted with deep concern the appalling conduct of Victoria Emeafa Hardcastle, the newly appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, during the sitting of the Parliamentary Vetting Committee. Her verbal attack on Hon. Annoh Dompreh, Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, is not only a display of gross disrespect but also a direct affront to the high standards expected of public officials.
We wish to strongly condemn her unprofessional and uncultured behavior, which undermines the dignity of Parliament and disrespects our cherished cultural values. In Ghanaian society, women are held in high regard and expected to uphold virtues of respect, decorum, and self-restraint. It is culturally unacceptable for a woman, especially one occupying a public office, to openly insult a man—let alone an MP—during a public event.
The repercussions of her behavior are far-reaching and disturbing. Her viral outburst on social media sends a damaging message to young women across the country, setting a dangerous precedent that disrespectful conduct is acceptable for those aspiring to leadership roles. Furthermore, if she can openly insult a distinguished public servant in the full glare of the media, one can only imagine the hostile environment she might create for her staff behind closed doors. Her presence at the Petroleum Commission poses a threat to good governance, employee morale, and organizational growth.
We call on the following actions to be taken without delay:
- Victoria Hardcastle must be summoned before the Privileges Committee of Parliament to answer for her unacceptable behavior and be subjected to appropriate disciplinary action. No public servant, regardless of their position, should be above accountability.
- President John Dramani Mahama must revoke her appointment immediately to demonstrate his commitment to the code of conduct he outlined for his appointees. Allowing her to remain in office will only undermine his credibility and the values he claims to stand for.
Victoria Hardcastle’s disgraceful conduct disqualifies her from holding any position of influence in politics or corporate Ghana. Leaders are expected to inspire and lead by example, not tarnish the reputation of public offices with their arrogance and poor decorum. Her continued leadership at the Petroleum Commission will undoubtedly stifle growth, foster a toxic work culture, and compromise the Commission’s role in driving Ghana’s energy sector.
The NPP stands resolute in its commitment to upholding decency, integrity, and respect in public service. We urge the NDC to act swiftly and decisively in addressing this matter, as failure to do so will further expose their hypocrisy and lack of commitment to the principles of good governance.
Signed,
Evans Osei Yeboah TSOOBOI
(Eastern Regional Communications Officer, NPP)
