In Ghana, the diligence and negligence of healthcare personnel towards their patients play a pivotal role in shaping the quality of care across various sectors – hospitals, school clinics, polyclinics, clinics, school clinics, and community health care. With the main aim of Ghana’s health service being to improve the health needs of all people through comprehensive, accessible, and quality health services especially at the primary level, understanding the dynamics of healthcare delivery is crucial.
This article delves into the significance of healthcare workers attitude towards patients in Ghana’s diverse healthcare landscape.
But what we currently see or experience from various healthcare workers in Ghana is the negligence of health personnel in these various health sectors especially with nurses. The negligence of nurses towards their patients is becoming unbearable, leading to the demise of some patients while other patients have their case worsening.
You arrive at a health facility for treatment, but when you get there, the nurse on duty is more focused on their phone experiencing social media posts and happenings. Sometimes they group chat or converse with each other instead of prioritizing saving a life or attending to their patients. Nurses are supposed to be warm and friendly to patients, but instead, most of them talk harshly, creating an unfriendly environment for patients to feel free and speak about the problems they’re facing.
Stakeholders and government officials at the Ghana Health Service (GHS) – what steps can be taken in Ghana’s various health sectors to help achieve the goals of Ghana’s health service? Some steps like stopping health personnel from using phones when on duty and having a supervisor check to see how nurses treat patients. This is because patients often complain about unfair treatment or neglect by nurses.
Even though the situation may not end totally, but putting these measures in place will help regulate and ensure the patient receives the right treatment whenever they attend a health facility for treatment.
