A driver of a Chevrolet Prizm saloon car with registration number GR 2698-16 has died after an articulated vehicle crushed it in a head-on collision at Teacher Mante New Town stretch of the Accra to Kumasi Highway.
According to the Police, on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at about 12:30 noon, Teacher Mante Police received information from motorists plying the Suhum-Nsawam highway indicating a motor traffic accident.
Police proceeded to Teacher Mante Newtown where the accident occurred and met the Chevrolet Prizm saloon car with registration number GR 2698-16 extensively damaged beyond repairs facing the township on its right side from Kumasi direction with the driver stuck behind the steering wheel unconscious.
With the help of other road users, he was removed and rushed to Nsawam Government hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by the in charge of the emergency unit of the said hospital.
An articulator DAF XF with registration number AS 5607-16 fully loaded with bags of maize also facing Accra direction driven by Abdul Fataw, 37, on phone No. 0240193967 was also met at the scene with his two drivers’ mates who sustained various degrees of injuries.
They were also taken to the Obregyimah Presbyterian Health Centre for treatment.
The body of the deceased driver was deposited at the Nsawam Government Hospital Morgue for identification, preservation, and autopsy.
Preliminary investigation by Police indicates that the articulator truck was traveling from Kumasi towards Accra whilst the saloon car was driving from the opposite direction.
Upon reaching a section of the road at Teacher Mante Newtown, the saloon car driver, now deceased, was said to be making an overtaking and in the process, crashed head-on with the articulator truck.
Efforts are underway to remove and tow the accident vehicles to the station to aid in the investigation.
